Creating a Consistent Brand Across All Social Media Channels

Other than sharing an almost *identical* first name with the founder of Plann, Kristy really knows her stuff when it comes to Branding and Social Media.

Kristy’s previous roles have been to ensure corporate brands had a strong image, presence & remained consistent across all internal and external channels. Having spent over 10 years holding management positions in both Marketing Operation & Service delivery, Kristy is now a proud mum to identical twin girls Penelope & Savannah. Still wanting a career, she has utilized her passion for creativity by starting her own business – Just Social Media.

As someone who has followed Kristy’s journey for a long time, whenever I see a very particular shade of teal, I think of Just Social Media. Now *that* is what I like to call a consistent brand.

Firstly, how on earth did you decide that blue/teal would be *your* color?

Well, it’s an interesting story. Unlike most brands when they are developed through brand identity etc, my brand color was inspiration from a gift my husband purchased for me when my twin girl’s Penelope & Savannah were born. The girl’s had to stay in the hospital a few days without us and my husband purchased me a scarf when out for coffee to distract me. It then, of course, became my favorite scarf and I was wearing it the day I decided to really commit to becoming a Social Media Manager and business owner. From there it grew and I absolutely love my brand, colors and what I do!

Also, everyone was doing the pink thing and I just wanted to be different. 😉

Free Storytelling Guide: 30 Questions To Help You Tell Your Brand Story

What was the first Social Media platform you set up for your biz, and why?

Instagram…just in front of Facebook, LinkedIn & Twitter. As soon as I registered my business name, I snapped up all the social platform names to ensure they were mine. It was only then, I sat back to evaluated which ones I would invest my time in setting up.

Your imagery is always on brand, and a little birdy told us that your colors have made their way into your office too! How do you find these magical on-brand things?

What can I say, my name is Kristy and I am addicted to my brand! I really do love my brand & its color.

Over the past 12 months, the Teal/Blue color was everywhere. It was the ‘in color.

When it comes to the home office, I am covered from ceiling to floor. Be it stationary or office supplies, from Kikki K, Kmart, Typo & Officeworks, I am on brand.

Hmm… but let’s not stop at the office… everything from clothes, cushions, mugs and bath towels through to my stationary, it’s all on brand! (yes, even my bath towels).

If you could only have one Social Media platform for the rest of your biz life, what would you choose?

Hmmm, that’s such a difficult question…

As much as I love Instagram, I would lean towards Facebook… just! For my business, I get the most out of Facebook. With its current functionality and being a service-based product, it provides me with a few more options.

How far in advance do you plan your Social Media content?

I’m a planner. I have a plan to plan! I generally have a two-week rule (minimum) for my clients’ work. For Just Social Media, we are almost 4 weeks in advance. There are a number of reasons.

Business:
For the platform such as Instagram, it allows me to see what my client’s feeds will look like in advance. I guess, stating the obvious, this is where PLANN makes my life easy. It also allows to me to do work on the run, as it’s already done.

Personal:
As a mum who works from home, It also gives me a ‘buffer’ in case one or both of my girl’s get sick. It takes the stress out, knowing that I wouldn’t be letting my clients down or struggling to get my work done in the chaos that twins bring.

You’re a proud (and busy) Mum of twins; how do you juggle content creation and posting for yourself, as well as all of your clients? You must be superwoman!

Superwomen? … let’s go with #crazywoman!

I won’t lie, in the past, I haven’t invested the time in my own business/ creation as I do for my clients. It’s cliché, but I always put my clients first and tell myself, I will do my list later. I also grew really quickly (a good problem to have, right?). When I first started, I went from having 2 medium-sized clients to 10 in the space of a fortnight and went into overdrive trying to implement and manage their social media accounts. Thankfully, it has changed. I now allocate a number of hours in the weekly schedule for my own business & work. It’s exciting when I can get super creative for my brand and really push the boundaries.

If you had to choose, what is your most favorite feature within Plann?

Without sounding too cheesy, I would be lost without PLANN. I have watched it grow from its initial concept and I love its direction and ease that it has brought to my business.

As a social media manager for small businesses, it allows me to have multiple accounts set up. Ok, more than multiple … A LOT! I can manage all of my clients from the PLANN app and it is super easy.

One feature I really love from Plann is scheduling Instagram Stories! It’s made a huge difference for my planning and took away a small pain point. It allowed me to add another task under the one solution which streamlines my work.

I am really excited (like, ready to do a Tom Cruise and jump on the couch excited!!!) but patiently waiting for the roll out of the auto-scheduling function. #showmethenewfeature
