TikTok Profile Viewing: How to see who viewed your profile

Discover how to change your TikTok profile viewing settings in this practical guide.

When TikTok first landed, it was far from the platform it has become today. At the time, trending dances and funny sketches were all you needed to succeed on TikTok. Who would have thought a few short years later that it would be the fastest-growing social media platform for creators, brands, and businesses?

Along with stacks of new features to help businesses grow, TikTok has a highly engaged user base that uses the platform for product discovery and shopping inspiration.

Plus, you can now see who has viewed your TikTok profile. This is a game-changing feature for brands and creators who want to know exactly who is interested in their content. Here’s a full rundown of how to use this feature and its benefits for businesses (like you).

What is TikTok Profile Viewing?

TikTok profile viewing lists show which users have visited your profile within the last 30 days. It’s a handy addition if you’re using TikTok to grow your personal brand or business.

What makes this feature so interesting is that it gives you real insight into what kind of users your TikTok content is attracting. Gone are the days of simply seeing an overview of your audience’s demographics, age and location.

With this profile viewing feature, you can identify the exact person interested in your content and ensure that the videos you share are directly relevant to their needs, goals, and aspirations.

Why monitor your TikTok Profile views?

You may be wondering why you would want to know who viewed your profile.

Think about it.

Unlike other social media platforms (Instagram, we’re looking at you), you have no idea who is looking at your profile. The only information you have on your audience is those who choose to follow you.

While your following list is powerful data, understanding who is tapping through to your profile gives you even more information you can use to strengthen your social media strategy.

Here’s how monitoring your TikTok profile views can increase engagement and grow your account:

Benefit 1. Hone Your Audience

The value you get out of this feature will depend, to some extent, on your connection goals. This feature is great if you’re looking to gain a greater understanding of who is engaging with your content so you can ensure your targeting is on point.

You can easily scroll through the profile views and check out the profiles of those watching you. Are they in your demographics? If not, what about your current content is attracting them, and how can you tweak it to attract the right audience?

Benefit 2. Nurture Relationships

Beyond that, when you know someone has viewed your profile, you can view theirs. You can watch their videos, engage with their content, and comment on relevant insights or witty observations. They will then likely respond in kind, and a rapport starts to build.

The whole point of this exercise is to build relationships with your audience on TikTok and turn profile views into meaningful connections.

This means that when you ask your audience for a sale or to take action, they’ll be ready to do so.

Benefit 3. Improve Your Content and Engagement Strategy

Understanding who views your profile can provide clues about what type of content attracts more viewers.

For example, if a specific video leads to a spike in profile views, that’s a sign it’s engaging and a context clue to create more similar content.

A steady increase in views can also indicate growing interest in your content, while a decrease might signal the need to change your strategy.

If certain demographics view your profile more often, tailor your content to serve their interests better.

Benefit 4. Identifying Potential Collaborators

If you notice that influencers or brands are viewing your profile, it could open up collaboration opportunities.

It’s like cold calling, except the lead is much warmer.

These accounts are already checking out your account and know who you are, which makes pitching a collaboration 100x easier.

How to View Your TikTok Profile Views

So, how can you see who viewed your TikTok profile?

First of all, this feature hasn’t been rolled out universally. Currently, it’s only available to users over the age of 16 with fewer than 5,000 followers.

The latter restriction is likely due to the difficulty of managing a list of profile views over a certain length, and accounts with more followers would have extensive lists.

If the feature is available to you, the good news is that it’s super straightforward to see who viewed your TikTok account. It only requires toggling a setting on or off.

Just be aware that while nobody else can see who viewed your profile but you, by activating the feature, you’re consenting to let others know when you’ve viewed their profile.

Before you panic that competitors know you’ve been checking out their profiles, don’t worry. This is a feature you have to manually opt-in to, so unless you’ve clicked that eye icon and agreed to it, nobody knows when you’ve been snooping. You can also turn it off any time you like.

To turn on TikTok profile views, follow these steps:

1. Open the TikTok App: Start by launching the TikTok app on your mobile device.

2. Go to Your Profile: Tap the profile icon located at the bottom right corner of the screen. This will take you to your profile page, where you can see your posts and other personal information.

3. Access Profile Viewers: You will see a footstep icon at the top of your profile page. Tap on this icon to access the profile views feature.

4. Review the List of Viewers: A new page will open displaying the list of users who have viewed your TikTok profile in the past 30 days.

5. Analyze Viewer Data: Use the information about your profile viewers to analyze engagement trends. Note the frequency of visits, the type of viewers, and any patterns that emerge over time.

How to Turn Off Profile Views on TikTok

Don’t want other users to know your TikTok lurking habits? You can easily turn off the feature to prevent your username from appearing on others’ profile view history.

It’s a good idea if you want to maintain a low profile (especially if you’re conducting competitor research) or if you value your privacy and want control over how your data is used on the app.

But remember, once you turn the feature off, you won’t see who viewed your TikTok profile either.

Here’s how to turn off profile viewing on TikTok:

1. Open TikTok and Access Your Profile: Open the TikTok app on your mobile device. Tap the footstep icon at the top right corner to navigate to your profile views page.

2. Open Settings: On your profile views page, tap the three dots (or the gear icon, depending on your app version) in the top right corner to select settings and privacy.

3. Toggle Off Profile View History: Tap Profile Views, and you will see an option labelled “Profile Views History.” There will be a toggle switch next to it. Tap this switch off to turn off the profile view history feature. With your profile views turned off, you will no longer be able to see your profile views, and other users will also not be able to see if you visited their TikTok profile.

Plann Your TikTok Takeover

A large follower count doesn’t hold much value for your brand or business unless your followers are engaged, too. Your followers can easily become a vanity metric if you’re not putting in the hard work to build relationships, foster connections, and develop brand loyalty.

You could have a million followers, but if only 0.1% of those followers are engaged, you only have a thousand followers that are of any use. If, on the other hand, you have 10K followers and 20% of those followers are engaged, you have twice as many useful followers.

Keeping track of who has viewed your profile can help you create a real community that cares about your content and believes in your brand.

But to get to that point, you need to consistently engage your audience for the long term. With Plann, we make it easy to plan, create, and schedule your TikTok content in advance so you can spend more time building genuine relationships with your audience.
