Instagram Threads, now widely known just as Threads, only launched in July 2023 – but since then, it’s grown to a huge and dedicated user base of over 200 million

The perfect complement to Instagram’s photo- and video-based approach, Threads encourages its audiences to write engaging, often quippy text posts and share memes in the same vein as X (formerly Twitter). It’s a fantastic tool for both communicating with your existing following and drawing new people to connect with you on Instagram.

To make sure you’ve got the best shot at success on the app, it’s important to understand the Threads algorithm and, specifically, the best time to post to Threads to see quality engagement.

We’ve done all the work so you don’t have to, reviewing study after study to figure out exactly when the best time to post to Instagram Threads is – keep reading for the scoop.

Why does posting time matter on Instagram Threads?

If you’re looking to harness all of Threads’ awesome potential for your brand, now’s the right time: the platform has over 33 million daily active users just waiting to hear from you. But, you can only reach those people if you’re smart about what you post, and of course, when you post.

The numbers don’t lie: this is a hugely popular platform, so it pays to know the best time to post on Threads!

There’s always been lots of chatter about whether posting time really matters on social media, and on some platforms (such as TikTok and LinkedIn), it’s less crucial, but Meta platforms still give post time quite a bit of credence.

Here are a few reasons to post on Instagram Threads at the right time:

  • Give yourself the best shot at algorithmic success: Threads’ AI system (AKA the Threads algorithm) seeds your content out slowly to engaged users in the For You and Following tabs, rather than giving everyone immediate access – and if these people engage, it tells the algorithm to open the floodgates. So, if users are active when you post, you’re increasing your chances at engagement – and subsequently, algorithmic success – off the bat.
  • Reach your people when they’re online: Posting when your existing following is online will immediately amplify the performance of your Threads content. Your followers should be your most active fans, but you’re shooting yourself in the foot if you (for example) post when they’re all asleep or slaving away at their work desks. Don’t make things harder for yourself – meet them where they are and the likes will come.
  • Improve your chances of being seen on Instagram: As you may have seen, Instagram features a handful of posts from Threads at regular intervals along your Following feed. If you want to be seen here, you’ve got to give the Threads algorithm what it wants – and post time can play a huge role in this!
